Ribery in tears during emotional Bayern farewell press conference

Franck Ribery was unable to hide his emotions as long-serving Bayern Munichteam mate Rafinha said goodbye to the club.

Rafinha made 266 appearances for Bayern and helped them to six consecutive Bundesliga titles, but along with Ribery and Arjen Robben will depart the club this summer.

As the Brazilian full back made his closing remarks on Wednesday, Ribery was seen crying and covering his eyes with his hand as his emotions got the better of him.

After Rafinha had finished speaking, he embraced his fellow players, including Neuer, who was wearing a Bayern shirt with the Brazilian’s name on the back, and gave a particularly forceful hug to Ribery.

Rafinha himself got emotional as he spoke about a hugely successful spell in Munich, which included winning the 2013 Champions League.

He said: ‘The eight years have been wonderful, I’ve had some great moments here. The treble in 2013 was special.

‘All things come to an end eventually. We are together every day and know each other so well – we are a family. The friendship we all have is the greatest thing.’

Ribery has spent 12 years at Bayern after joining from Marseille in 2007, during which time he became recognised as one of the world’s greatest wingers.

He has won the Bundesliga eight times with the German giants, and will add a ninth if they avoid defeat against Eintracht Frankfurt on Sunday.
